Utility Scanning
We provide underground utility detection and scanning services before excavation and construction works begin.

How we scan
Utility scanning can help identify buried services and reduce the risk of damaging underground infrastructure, improving both site safety and project efficiency.
Before the dig
We survey the ground before any digging starts and work from the service records available for the site. The area is scanned across a grid so buried services can be traced and their routes followed out. Depths and positions are recorded as the survey moves across the working area.
Traced services are marked on the ground and drawn onto a plan of the area. The plan is passed to the site team and to whoever is digging, so the marks can be worked to. Where a service cannot be traced with confidence, we say so and trial holes are agreed before excavation.
- Collect the available service records for the area
- Scan the working area on a grid
- Mark traced services on the ground
- Issue the marked-up plan to the site team
